Probably another dumb question, but there’s really no way to flash the Arduino directly over USB?
ESP8266 boards come with USB and can be flashed that way, but here and there I found that you absolutely need a programmer.

Esp8266 бывают с Юсб и заливаются, но тут а истории нашел что нужен обязательно программатор

It’s just that you’re basically turning the Arduino into a non-Arduino. Arduino isn’t just a MCU on a board with some supporting components — first and foremost it’s the bootloader and the development environment.
So if it were still functioning as an Arduino, you’d be able to upload sketches over USB.
просто ты фактически из ардуины делаешь не-ардуину. Ардуино это не только МК на платке с обвесом, это в первую очередь загрузчик и среда разработки.
То есть если бы там оставалась ардуино то скетчи бы шились по УСБ.
