Experience with PVB/BF2 coating for adhesion and a mixture recipe

Adhesives, part 4

Since the last post, I tested a few other polymers behind the scenes and gained some hands-on experience using PVB KA. Sharing.

  1. Pure PVB KA can absolutely be used as an adhesive without any additives, but there’s a catch: the coating is fairly delicate, doesn’t like scratches, and doesn’t handle high temperatures well. If the bed is heated above 90 degrees and the nozzle goes above 250 degrees, the coating starts bubbling. You can see this clearly in the macro photo of the bed area under the model.

  2. Because of the downsides described in point 1, I decided to experiment with adding different amounts of BF2 to the PVB.
    Out of the three options, I think this one is optimal:

Egordzhus 2
2.5-2.7 g BF2
3 g PVB KA
55 g ethanol or isopropanol

Preparation: mix all the components in a sealed container (I use urine sample jars), stir vigorously, leave the goo for 6-8 hours so the small PVB clumps dissolve, stir again, wait for the bubbles to rise out, pour the contents onto the bed in a single drop, let it dry for 4-8 hours, then bake for 2-4 hours at 140 degrees. The coating is ready.

This version right here, though it is kind of a hassle, and it needs separate glass…

Адгезивы часть 4

С момента последнего поста за кадром проверил несколько других полимеров и набрал некоторый опыт эксплуатации ПВБ КА. Делюся.

  1. Чистый пвб ка вполне можно использовать в качестве адгезива без всяких добавок, но есть нюанс: покрытие достаточно нежное, боится царапин и высоких температур. При нагреве стола выше 90 градусов и сопла выше 250 градусов покрытие идёт пузырями. Это хорошо видно на макро фото области стола под моделью

  2. Из-за минусов, описанных в п. 1, я решил поэкспериментировать с добавлением разного количества бф2 в пвб.
    Из трёх вариантов оптимальным считаю следующий:

Егорджус 2
2.5-2.7г бф2
3г пвб ка
55г этанол или изопропанол

Приготовление: смешать все компоненты в герметичной таре (я использую баночки для анализов мочи), активно перемешать, оставить жижу на 6-8 часов для растворения мелких комков пвб, повторно перемешать, дождаться всплытия пузырьков, вылить содержимое на стол одной каплей, дать 4-8 часов на высыхание, запечь 2-4 часа при 140 градусах. Покрытие готово

Вот этот вариант, заморочки правда и стекло отдельное…
